International Day of Hijab
Today is the international day of Hijab. This is a salute to the sisters who wear the hijab out of conviction, not because of a father, a brother, a political motive, or a desire to win or please a husband. You parade--without pretension-- a very powerful, a very visible symbol of the umma and take no credit for it in this world at a time when most people worships power and those who hold it. You want to please Allah. Allah is the Lord of the Universe and He will reward you. Stay the course, wherever you maybe. Disregard the invectives of liberals, the slurs and narrow-mindedness of the bigots, the betrayal of Muslim men and women who seemed at one point comrades but has subsequently left you. Forgive the ignorance of those amongst Muslims who were unable to see you or appreciate you. Heed not the calls of those who 'refine' their jurisprudence to fit in, to please the crowds, to satisfy the whims and desires of others. Trade not your modesty for the faux hijab, for the images of mohajababe that one sees these days across the Muslim world! They desecrate hijab. They make a mockery of it. You revere it. You indirectly promote it amongst those who see with eyes not blinded by prejudice; with hearts not darkened by sins and brain not brainwashed by the pressures of the market and its social agents/victims. Your modesty is a beautiful gem in our world. Look with empathy, but don't emulate the esthetically-blind world around you. Its population is a victim of being forced to take a long road, which started with the denial of God, and passed through hatred of forefathers, adulation of self, hatred of self and finally an unsatisfactory worship of the profane. Stay connected beyond the here and now. The fact that a plentitude of mankind are satisfied with the latter is a testimony to the many Quranic verses you read. Finally, remember hijab is just the symbol. The essence is what you think and what you do. You are human. When you sin don't take it on yourself or your hijab. Keep it and turn away from the downward spiral that shayateen want you to take. Hijab will help you in your way back. Allah is the Most Merciful.
